Dersin Amaç ve İçeriği

Course Objectives: Introduction to Sociology aims to provide students with a basic knowledge of social structures, relations and processes. This course introduces sociological theories, concepts and methods to understand the interaction between the individual and society. Students will develop critical thinking skills and analyze society through topics such as social institutions, culture, social stratification, gender, race, ethnicity and globalization.
Course Content: This course covers the definition and historical development of sociology, sociological theories, social structure and institutions, culture and society, social stratification, sex and gender, race and ethnicity, social change and globalization, sociological research methods.

Program Outcomes
1) Know the basic assumptions within the basic trends, theoretical approaches and perspectives in the field of psychology, make comparisons between approaches, identify similarities and differences.
2) Knows the purpose and scope of psychology, its origins, historical development and its relations with other disciplines.
3) To have knowledge about different theoretical approaches in the field of psychology at an advanced level supported by textbooks, application tools and other resources containing up-to-date information.
4) Knows the subfields of psychology, the subject of study of each subfield and the specific methods used in each subfield.
5) Knows the basic application areas of psychology.
6) Knows how psychology deals with mental and behavioral processes, how and with which measurement and evaluation tools it uses the scientific method.
7) Knows and defends the ethical principles and values of the discipline of psychology; puts their decisions into practice in line with these principles and values.
8) To be able to conduct a research in the field of psychology both individually and as a team.
9) Can transform questions about behavior and mental processes into research questions and hypotheses by adopting a scientific approach and can decide on the appropriate method and research design to examine them.
10) To be able to access and evaluate information from scientific products and databases in order to present convincing arguments on different topics related to the field.
11) Compare the assumptions, methods and basic levels of analysis of psychology and other disciplines; describe the contributions of psychology to other disciplines and interdisciplinary perspectives.
12) Has the competence to share his/her opinions and suggestions for solutions to studies on psychology-related issues with experts or non-experts on a data-based basis.
13) Has the ability to use information and communication technologies necessary for accessing and disseminating information.
14) Takes part in scientific studies that will contribute to the development of the field of psychology and in studies that produce social benefit.
15) To be able to inform people and institutions on issues related to psychology; to be able to convey his/her thoughts and suggestions for solutions to problems in written and oral form.
16) To be able to identify a research topic in the field of psychology, to generate hypotheses, to collect data, to use appropriate analysis methods and to report.
17) Has basic knowledge and skills of observation and interview techniques.
18) Has the ability to report research results in accordance with scientific writing format.
19) It has the understanding that characteristics and differences such as age, gender, race, ethnic group, national identity, religion, sexual orientation, disability and socioeconomic status should not be a cause of prejudice.
